I consider the third version of my portfolio to be a perfection of the Flash-based portfolios. Every motion from the loading bar to appearance of the DaySign logo to opening and closing of pages is beautifully smooth. The Work section's windows expand/shrink and glide to accommodate the size of images and text. Every motion in the portfolio was meticulously tweaked until it was just right. You would not believe how long I spent making the loading bar operate the way that it does. I first developed the loading bar style for Christina Helton's Model Portfolio and also used it on other websites such as Lu Lu Josephine - Timeless Designs.
Aside from looking and functioning better than my previous portfolios, this version is also miles ahead in terms of programming and technique. With the exception of the logo in the top left, all animations on the portfolio website are programmed movements (actionscript code). I wrote my own global functions that apply to movieclips for fading, gliding, growing, etc. All of the functions allow for defining speeds, target frame rates, callback functions once completed, etc. and are a breeze to use. I believe Macromedia added similar functions to later versions of Flash, but I am not sure since I stopped using Flash with player version 6 (MX).
The portfolio pulls the work information (including the categories, image URLs, descriptions, etc.) from a MySQL database. Both the Flash and HTML version 3 portfolios share the same MySQL database.
